Beth Borgia Summers "Lord of our lives, our hope in death, we cannot listen to Taps without our souls stirring. Its plaintive notes are a prayer in music–of hope, of peace, of grief, of rest… Prepare us too, Lord, for our final bugle call when you summon us home! When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and death will be no more."

Enjoyed seeing all my family yesterday and paying tribute to an amzing man...my Grandpa Borgia! He was such a great man and an example to me and how I will live my life! I will miss you grandpa!
Being the oldest grandchild, I take pride in the fact that I made Edward Borgia the great grandfather he was in June of 1976. I have several stories that I wanted to share...some of my favorite memories with grandpa. From a young age, I can remember being excited every time Grandpa Borgia came to visit us because he would always have a treat for us. Normally this treat would be something like lifesavers which he would give each of us our own roll of lifesavers. But we could not ask grandpa directly for the treat like we were expecting it...we had to act well behaved and let him tease us a while before he would reveal his surprise. Sometimes he would give us the treat shortly after arriving, and sometimes he would make us wait, teasing us and egging us on until we were all laughing and shaking with anticipations. Grandpa had a lot of fun with this power he had over us, but also loved the joy he saw when we finally got our treat. When I was about 12-13 I started spending a week each summer visiting Grandma and Grandpa. This was a week I always looked forward to, and now looking back, these weeks I spent with Grandma and Grandpa have had a huge impact on my life. One of the first things I learned from Grandpa was the history and secrets of sourdough. We would spend all week making pancakes, bread, biscuits, pizza, cinnamon rolls, etc. One of the other memories I had was playing cards with Grandpa which would turn into a weeklong competition...which I won! Grandpa would never admit it afterwards...but to this day, I still have the scorecard that we kept all week for this competition. It might be considered one of my greatest accomplishments ever achieved. But the thing that changed my life was when I turned 14 years old and was allowed to play on Grandpas golf course. I remember going down to the little driving range cage at the club house and hitting ball, after ball, after ball. Grandpa would give me tips and techniques and taught me to love the game of golf. Al though I am very far from ever competing at a high level, I have continued to play and grow with my golf game. I remembered the last time I played with Grandpa how impressed he was with my swing and my game. I had changed quite a bit from when I was a 14 year old boy...and I thanked him for being the one who introduced and taught me the game. Every time I lace up my shoes, breath that cool air, take my practice swings...I will always tip my hat on the course in respect and thanks to my grandfather. He has been a great example to me in how to lead my life. And although I love golf, it is not the best thing grandpa gave me. He has gave me the opportunity to obtain any education I wanted to pursue which resulted in undergraduate degree in organizational behavior, and a graduate degree in organizational development both from The University of San Francisco. But even more than that...he made the decision to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and raised his family in the church. With this one decision, Grandpa has allowed his family and generations to come the opportunity of exaltation and eternal life. He has prepared his mansion on high and I look forward to the day when I can see him again. I miss him a lot, but I know he is always with me. Now if he can help me get that hole in one... -Sam

Hmm...One of my favorite memories with Grandpa....There are just too many to think of..My favorite memory would have to be whenever he would visit for Christmas and make Sphinxees the best finger food/desert ever!! I loved making them with Grandpa, I would always end up with powdered sugar on my face..good times.
Another memory is Natasha's Wedding, Grandpa looked so happy, and i could tell that he loved singing the song with Brianna..I will miss Grandpa until I return to heaven..
From Phil:
One of my fondest memories of Dad was when we went to Hawaii as a family. I believe I was in 4th grade. It was an extended family vacation that lasted, I believe, 4 or 5 weeks. We rented a beach house, attended a local ward where we made friends with the members. In fact, upon our departure, they put on a luau. Mom and Dad even made us attend a local school for a day.
Two particular memories I have of the trip was one, the family home evening we put on for the ward. It must have been my father’s idea. Somehow he learned that the members really didn’t know how to hold a FHE. So for one sacrament meeting, in lieu of the talks, our family held a regular FHE to show the ward how the program worked. We had the song, prayer, etc. I remember even bearing my testimony during the presentation which was not part of the plan.
The other memory was towards the end of our trip. We were staying in a high rise hotel, I believe, on the island of Hawaii. The hotel was right across from the beach and at night you could hear the crashing of the surf. One night it was particularly hot and humid. The air conditioner must not have been working because we had the balcony door open and we were lying on top of the bed sheets. Because of the size of our family, we had two hotel rooms and I was in the one with mom and dad. I couldn’t sleep because it was so hot and evidently dad couldn’t either. It must have been close to midnight. Dad noticed I wasn’t sleeping either so he suggested we go take a dip in the ocean to cool off. So dad and I both got up, put our swim suits on and went across the street for a midnight swim in the ocean. We were the only two there. We only stayed maybe 15 or 20 minutes but it was enough to cool us off. We went back to the hotel room and went right to sleepThings I think of when I think of Grandpa, Sourdough pancakes, bread, rolls, english muffins, etc. Did you wash your hands? Santa Clause You have a headache? Let me look at your neck. Bocce ball I'll give you a piece of candy if the Dodgers are your favorite team. Heritage, family, Italian Education Hugs where you squeeze as hard as you can Sourdough pancakes from a garbage can -Mandi- Things we remember about Great Grandpa Borgia He would stare at us with a very big smile. He was very nice. Sourdough pancakes. Big hugs. Nice to children. Sat on the couch a lot. Big brown eyes Sleeping on the couch -Tollison Children-
